Key Decisions Approved in Sixth Academic Council Meeting

The sixth meeting of the Academic Council of the University of Chakwal was held on 19 June 2025 under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Farrukh Arsalan Siddiqui. The meeting was attended by senior faculty members, academic and administrative experts, representatives from various universities, and officials from the Ministry of Education.

After detailed discussions, all agenda items were unanimously approved. The Council confirmed the minutes of its fifth meeting held on 4 February 2025 and approved recommendations for the award of degrees to 989 students, while 85 students were declared cleared subject to the completion of required regulations. The University formally adopted the Higher Education Commission’s RIPE and PREE-PSG-2023 quality assurance policies and approved several feedback and evaluation forms developed by the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC).

In line with HEC directives, a mandatory 3-credit-hour Artificial Intelligence (AI) course will be introduced in all undergraduate and postgraduate programs from Fall 2026, while a mandatory 1-credit-hour course on Understanding of the Holy Quran (Fehm-e-Quran) will be implemented from Fall 2025. The Council also approved relaxed admission criteria for the Faculty of Sciences, allowing students with 45% or higher marks in Intermediate examinations to apply. Furthermore, 10 self-finance seats were approved for all degree programs, with any vacant seats to be converted into open merit seats. The launch of a B.Ed. 1.5-Year Program under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was also approved, with its fee structure to be finalized by the Finance and Planning Committee after comparison with similar programs offered by neighboring universities. The Council also reviewed and approved the minutes of various Faculty Boards and discussed the Scheme of Studies for the new B.Ed. program.

Addressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Farrukh Arsalan Siddiqui stated that these decisions reflect the University’s commitment to academic excellence, digital readiness through modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, and the promotion of ethical and moral values. He reaffirmed the University’s dedication to producing professionally competent and ethically responsible graduates while continuing to provide quality higher education to students from Chakwal and surrounding districts.
